The department of Marathi is established in 1964 and first batch passed out in 1967. The department, since the beginning till today, is working actively and successfully. Former Heads of our department are Dr. A. R. Toro, a famous writer of Comparative Literature. Dr. M. R. Datar, spiritual writer and Marathi Writer, Present Head Dr. Sarjerao Jadhav and his Co-faculty Dr. B. K. Wanole actively Participating in the research extension and organizing various faculty development programmes and activities for the students. Dr. B. K. Wanole has been Sanctioned a Minor Research Project of (Rs. 152000/-) by ICSSR, New Delhi.
Marathi is our mother tongue. Mother tongue is the medium of our civilization and culture. In point of view of development of personality, it is necessary to master it to pronounce and write in Marathi properly and fluently. Keeping this in point of the View the department of Marathi is encouraging to develop and speak frankly and fluently in Marathi.
To encourage the students, the department conducts the activities like Debate, Elocution, Poetry Recitation, Storytelling, Wall paper, Essay Competition and Gandhi Vichar Sanskar Pariksha etc. The faculty of the department uses Blending Methods while teaching Marathi language and literature, such as WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Google meet, Blog, YouTube, PPT and Traditional Lecture and Interaction Method. The dept. has organized Seminars, Workshops, Webinars, Conference, University Vyakhanmala etc. to develop research aptitude of the students of Marathi Miss. Anuradha Shamrao Mane bagged ‘Gold Medal’ from Shivaji University, Kolhapur in 2006. Miss Shamal Appsaheb Khot received university Scholarship of 10000/- and is University Ranker in the 2009. Miss. Pragati Sambhaji Magdum got Shivaji University Merit Scholarship of Rs. 10000/- in 2017-18.
Dr. S. S. Jadhav is recognised as Ph.D. guide by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. One Student is pursuing Ph.D. under his guidance. P. G. students Shri. Namdev Balasaheb Patil, Shri. Balasaheb Anna Sutar, Miss. Bharti Jotiram Kekare, Miss. Rohini Gajanan Relekar and Shri. Omkar Jitendra Patil Passed SET/ NET Exams. One minor research Project is sanctioned by ICSSR new Delhi and two research Projects proposals are submitted to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
